If you are a local and haven’t eaten at Table Food + Drink, you are missing out on one of Canmore’s best kept secrets.
For starts, Table Food + Drink’s Tuesday chicken special has been a staple for parents who are looking for an affordable way to feed their family, but also feel like adults. Rotisserie chicken from the grocery this is not. Cooked with dry rub, the chickens (half for $24.99 and a full for $39) come with a delicious assortment of seasonal fresh and pickled veggies – you can feed your small army, but Table is oh so much more.
Chef Tim Matsell’s creations are memorable and complex. For example, the appetizer, mussels and frites’ broth made from roasted garlic tomato, leeks, white wine and tarragon – is so unique. Sweet with a subtle tang, with notes of cinnamon, none of the servers are ever surprised when they pick up licked dry empty plates.
Other dishes like the pan-seared chicken, which comes with a savoury pecan bread pudding, crispy Brussels sprouts and roasted parsnips with a thyme scented pan jus – leaves you wondering where pecan bread pudding has been all your life and how can you recreate it at home. One of the Chef’s favourites is the braised boneless AAA beef rib onto of a butternut squash risotto with green pease and wild cippolini onion ragout is flavour rich and tender textured dish that lingers with your tastebuds.
Matsell, who is a 20-year Bow Valley resident, biker and hiker, knows sometimes you aren’t in the mood for a decadent meal after a big day in the mountains. Sometimes you just want fish tacos or fish and chips – two meals that Table serves and are on their $12 specials menu along with wings, mussels and a classic beef burger.
Table has a little bit of something for everyone – like their light, yet filling vegan cauliflower bites that are made with cumin scented tempura and their nightly vegetarian features. No matter what you are in the mood for, Table will satisfy.
