Whether you have been in the Bow Valley for 30 years or 30 days, chances are you have had a Valbella sandwich or at least seen their packages of meat around town at various stores.

Since 1978, the award winning Valbella Gourmet Foods has brought European style sausages, dried meats and other delectables to local restaurants and shops around Canmore and Banff.

Their flagship store is located in the industrial area next door to the police station and has been a staple for lunchtime sandwich eaters. Tucked in a small store front, you would always come out smelling like the grill – but it was worth it. That is no longer the case since Valbella has renovated and expanded their building to a space that allows them to showcase their full potential.

Shine on Valbella, we see you – you crazy diamond. We also see one of the most incredible views of the Three Sisters of any restaurant in the area.

Sandwiches are now just part of the dining repertoire. The new and improved shop offers one hot lunch and soup a day. The deli has grown so Valbella can offer more of a selection of cuts, cheeses, breads, farm fresh produce and European imports like chocolates, cookies, chips and more.

The food truck will also be outside on the weekends serving up a variety of meals that will change weekly. In July, the Valbella master chef cook off will start where chefs who work within the company – there are many – will challenge each other with a tasty battle and the public gets to be the judges! Check their social media for details.

New shop, new look – Valbella will also change their labels to a new logo designed by local graphic designer Matt Dent from Bison Bison. The new Three Sisters lino cut that adorns the shop along with historical photos will also be featured.

Last but not least, Valbella’s hours have not changed. They are still open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday's 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but they have hired a new employee named Bertha – the first refrigerated meat vending machine in Canada. Bertha works 24 hours a day and seven days a week and lives in the foyer.
