Extended Closure For Avalanche Control On Parkway

The Icefields Parkway (HWY93N) will be closed as of 3 p.m. MST November 30th for avalanche control work. The closure will be from Jasper down to Saskatchewan River Crossing with a planned reopening as of 4 p.m. on December 3rd.  A winter storm warning has been issued for this stretch of highway.  Environment Canada is forecasting a system that will arrive today and last until early Thursday could bring in excess of 50 cm of snow along with strong winds. The forecast for December 1st is 20-30 cm of snow along with winds gusting to 70 km/h. For updates on road closures and conditions Jasper National Park officials encourage motorists to check 511.alberta.ca.
